Dr Merridy Lithgow
Podiatrist
PhD, MSc, B.Pod(Hons)
Dr Merridy Lithgow is a passionate and friendly podiatrist with experience across all areas of podiatry. She has a strong interest in running-related injuries and lower limb musculoskeletal conditions, with advanced expertise in biomechanics, running retraining, and comprehensive skin and nail care. Her clinical practice is strongly informed by her background in teaching and research, allowing her to deliver evidence-based care tailored to each person.
Merridy holds a Bachelor of Podiatry with First Class Honours from the University of South Australia and a Master’s degree in Clinical Biomechanics from the University of Brighton in the United Kingdom. She has recently completed a PhD at La Trobe University, where her research focused on lower limb biomechanics in people with foot osteoarthritis.
She has worked in private practice across Adelaide, Sydney, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Her clinical experience includes orthotic and exercise prescription, running assessments and retraining programmes, and the use of adjunct therapies such as dry needling, radial shockwave therapy, and foot and ankle strengthening for overuse injuries. Merridy refined her running assessment skills at The Running Room, a specialised running clinic, and also spent a season in Canada designing custom orthotics for ski and snowboard boots.
While living in New York and completing her PhD, Merridy worked within a pain research group specialising in multidisciplinary pain education grounded in a contemporary biopsychosocial approach. She also worked closely with a world-leading orthotist, gaining advanced experience in the design and fabrication of custom orthotic devices for complex biomechanical presentations.
Merridy has extensive experience as a clinical educator and lecturer, having taught across Central Queensland University (Sydney campus), Western Sydney University, and La Trobe University in podiatric biomechanics courses and within university student clinics. She continues to prioritise professional development to ensure her practice remains current and evidence-based.
